AIDAN LAWLESS RIP

All our members were shocked and saddened to hear of the tragic death of our Junior Officer Aidan Lawless in a traffic accident near Limerick on Sunday evening last the 4th of Oct. Aidan's energy and enthusiasm as Junior Officer of the club will be hard to replace. It was through his guidance and leadership that junior golf at the club is in such a healthy state. Aidan had a great way with all the kids and some of the best golf of the week could be seen on Saturdays as the kids played under the watchful eye of the man himself. Not only was he a favourite with the kids but also with his many friends and golfing buddies especially his regular playing partners Mark, Michael and Aidan. His big smile, jolly laugh, packet of Major, and as he'd say himself, "his quick pint" in the Halfway on his way home, will be sadly missed by everyone at Slievenamon. Our deepest sympathy to his wife Kathleen, daughter Rachel and son Aidan Jnr.

FRED DALY COMPETITION IN THURLES
On Friday, the 17th April eight of our juniors travelled to Thurles to take on the Thurles juniors in the Fred Daly tournament. On the day, the more experienced Thurles lads proved too strong for our young team who played their hearts out and the tricky greens got the better of them on the day. This is a good experience for them as all the team have at least another two years to play at this level.

JUNIOR PRO-AM ST HELENS BAY 2009
Easter week was a very hectic week for the junior golfers of Slievenamon. Six juniors travelled to St Helen's Bay in Wexford for two days golf in a junior pro-am. Daniel Hickey, Arron Conron and Ronan Fitzgerald played with Howth G.C. professional Mark O'Mahoney, while Aidan Lawless Jnr, Philip Quirke and David Smyth partnered professional Bobby King for the two days golf. What a wonderful experience it was for them especially considering the excellent quality of the course, the friendly and helpful nature of the golf professionals and the high quality of facilities put at the disposal of all the juniors attending the event. Well done to all at St Helen's, we will return.
